So, working on this new thing with Bruno. Who, by the way has a new book coming out from IMAGE and I had to find this out from a PR SITE because he didn't TELL me. And do not give me that oh but it debuted at San Diego thing, as a certain of our so-called friends did. I am BUSY during San Diego. They could be selling BODY PARTS on that exhibit floor, and unless my guest was scheduled to autograph a random limb or two? I'm not gonna know about it.
Anyways. We're in the putting together of the details stage, so I send the preliminary Thoughts over the internet(s) to Bruno. He takes a look and sends back a note of hey that's pretty cool what about this, with his own far more Leaner Thoughts attached. Not random and unrelated thoughts, mind you, but dead on Thoughts he carved free from the excess fatty bits surrounding my Thoughts. I (heart) Bruno.
And in that note, he mentions tying in flowers and a garden.
Perhaps I should mention here that Bruno trains in a form of martial arts that, in essence, involves learning how to chop off people's heads with efficacy.
I'm like, okay. I'll look into the flower thing. I mean, the man knows how to chop off heads, okay? What would YOU say?
I've been reading up on wild flowers/horticulture/kitchen gardens/cultivation/et. al. of this region for about two weeks now. Came across lots of interesting, decorative tidbits. But mere moments ago***, I came across THE flower thing.
THE GREAT FLOWER ELECTION OF 1984!!! It was a MONUMENTAL effort. It involved THOUSANDS of people. And it happened right at the time our story takes place. The flower that won is PERFECT for what we need. It is not just a flower, but a Total Connection.
It is good.
I have two flowers but still need one more. I think the third will be not a flower, but a grass. It'll work. Trust me.
*** Not literally moments ago by the time you read this, thanks to the handy Typepad autopost feature, but metaphorically moments ago.
Oh, and hello to all of you people who showed up out of the blue, making me think something was wrong with my stat counter before I figured out what happened. I hope each and every one of you go out and buy Anansi Boys. The mighty Rick reviews it here. You won't regret it.
