I am *very* much into the Henry Ford approach when it comes to a project like this because it helps manage workflow, time and materials. Especially materials! You can spot a potential shortage early, rather than when it's far too late to do anything about it. So I'll cut a pile of teeny strips (and sew them together), then cut piles of honeycombs, then cut the sandwich elements, then cut and sew the straps, then assemble the sandwiches and quilt, and finally throw everything together for the final product. So I don't have a bunch of the same item in different stages of development; everything's at the same stage. Assembly line is the way to go!
For the Obama logo block, the things that take the longest are the teeny strips and cutting the honeycombs. Nattering over the straps is also taking a bit of time but that's mainly because I keep changing my mind.

Here are two purses in progress. That's one half of the blue one ready for quilting. They are oversize for quilting, cut down to final size after that step. The front of each purse has 18 honeycombs surrounding the Obama logo block. The back of each purse is solid.
The layers of the red one are folded back to display the sandwich elements - the logo, a layer of Warm & Natural filler, canvas backing. Once both halves of the purse is quilted and bound it's lined with something nice, yet sturdy. For the first run all lining will be that bright purple, mainly because that's what I've got in the house.
There will be images of completed purses soon. I'm still niggling over straps for the ones already done. I keep changing my mind. I don't want to put any of the completed purses up until they're, you know, complete.
Here's a closer shot of a blue one:
