The Hand of the All Mighty (unfortunately can't do anything about how bad typepad is now)

Posting has been light around here of late in part because of Demands Elsewhere, but mostly because  Typepad's new alleged upgrade (from which one cannot opt-out) is such an abysmal pile of Insert Bad Word Here that posting is a painful chore. I have started and abandoned so many zip down & other entries due to the failings of the service I pay money for, but no longer works as well as it used to.

But a Dearest sent me a link to a thing that I had to share. I already loved her. NOW I LOVE HER WITH THE WHITE HOT PASSION OF A THOUSAND SUPERNOVAS.

For the record? It took *four tries* for the link below to take properly, and that was only after I gave up trying to make them colored and bold, as is tradition around here. Add to that the teeny default Arial font one must now compose in, and the two- to three-second delay between typing a letter and having that letter actually appear? This post took 22 minutes to compose. Ah, Typepad. Soon as time permits, researching the options/costs and LEAVING. It's that bad.

NOT safe for work. Probably NOT safe for child ears. Most likely NOT safe for Moms concerned with the state of your soul.

I corrected the spelling of the title for this post due to my particular pet peeves. "All Mighty" is two words, okay? Two. Distinct. Words.

Silly, Silly New York Times

For some of us, THAT'S enough to find the place!

Glitter And Doom

via The Eyeball Kid.

So we got Waits, the Sex Pistols, NIN all going out this summer, aka the era of $4 gas and raised rent.

I need a second job.

Prince! Creep! Coachella!

Will swap out after someone posts a better one.

(Oh, and nyah-nyah to The Nice One because I found it first.)

Swapped out for one with much better sound and slightly better visuals. Hail Mary mother of fuckin god this man is good.

Great classic-rock-star-style picture here.

More pictures with good shots of the shirt and wristbands.

Even more pictures.

Given his history, I wonder how long this PrinceRoll will last before every single one of them is taken down by the lawyers? CLICK WHILE YOU HAVE THE CHANCE! Check out this guitar solo! Or this astonishing one! Or the extended "Little Red Corvette" in this one! In this one he flows from 'Seven' to 'Come Together' and he's in a different outfit. Omigod, 'Purple Rain' in the house!

(Update, one week later! The embed vid was pulled within five days of his show. Not sure about how many of the others linked to are still up, but I know at least two of them went down two days after they were uploaded. Short version? Took his legal team *less than a week* to bitch-slap it all down. Told ya to click while you had the chance.)

They give me warm & fuzzy flashbacks to the one glorious time I saw him live, the second greatest concert experience of my life. (The first was NIN way back in the day in Cleveland, when he was skinny, nobody knew who he was, and though I was mostly drunk at the time I knew that everything had Changed. Here's what happened around here during a recent NIN tour which has nothing to do with Prince, but I and several others in the circle like this story.)

Musical Interludes

Valka found this fabulous Tom Waits singing a Depression-era classic:

And Campbell found this nifty classical rock take on the General Electric theme song (heh. depending on your age, that made you giggle):

NIN Ghosts With Lots Of Pretty Baubles

Wallpaper2_2

What's cool? This time also available in CD, the format preferred by we, the elderly! Yet even if you only order the CD, you get the mp3 computer files and a boatload of other stuff downloaded at the same time. Image is one of the many wallpapers that came with the download. So I guess one for the computer, and one for the ancient (but far better sound system than the computer) CD player. Woo! That's like a power shopping 2-for-1 sale! The future is so interesting.

The man has Vision.

I Have (Almost) Joined The Future And It Is Good

They sent the code practically one second after midnight! Am not through the entire first listening session yet, but what I've heard so far is excellent.

Hoping they'll get enough from this initial release to put out cds down the road. Even though it only cost $5, I do not like that this album exists only on my computer. Not being of the All Tech All The Time Generation, the format severely limits my ability to listen to the album.

That said, I believe in the work and 'big picture' mission of Saul Williams. The work of Trent Reznor has meaning to Moi that I will not articulate in a public space other than surface (you'll have to scroll down a bit for that last link: Yes Virginia/Trent Part II has amused many folks I don't know, and friends who were there at the time are still mocking me for it). As I've worked to educate myself, I've come to believe in supporting the efforts of musicians artists trying to free themselves from elements of the  system that comes with the package.

Of course, pre-forced migration I never would have been able to get this album. Something The Elite Businessman said a few weeks ago particularly resonated when this album was dropping itself into my harddrive.

WeHo Weekend Interlude: Trent + Williams = Yay

I'm not sure what you're supposed to do if what you would like is a simple cd, but the future never cares about those of us who are still trying to figure out what the hell is going on. Details via LA Brain Terrain.

(Update! If reading via feed, for this one you have to click over to the home port to see what I'm talking about.)

I Got Hair On My Chest, I Look Good Without A Shirt

Waits_sings Continuing our distant participation in the current Tom Waits micro tour, this review found by the Eyeball Kid contains a taste of the wonderful chatter Waits sprinkles throughout his shows:

Almost as much fun as the music was the monologues. Waits has a stand-up comedian side to him that’s been well-honed since his early years when he was balladeering and badgering barflies for tip money. One segment of banter was essentially an extended joke concerning “how hard it is to get a bad cup of coffee” nowadays, what with the Starbucks-ization of the planet, and how he was going back to instant coffee; the punchline went, “because the keyword there is ‘instant.’” (This is a joke Waits has apparently been telling and refining ever since a 1997 Allen Ginsberg tribute he was involved in.) Another time, per his penchant for unearthing oddball true facts, he spoke admiringly about the watermelons you get in Japan, observing that they are square-shaped for better ease and efficiency of stacking.

Interesting tidbits in the article about attempts to get around the scalpers - tickets sold on eBay for over $1,000!!! - and a Die Scalpers, Die interview with the band manager. I have to say I Deeply Approve of eliminating alcohol sales at the shows. I can't even imagine treating one of his shows like a bar. They *are* theater, and you have to pay attention to really enjoy it. Getting rid of that distraction is a good call!

Image from the Louisville Courier Journal, and is the same one the EK picked, probably because most of the others sucked. I think the photog was trying to go for arty, but for the most part it didn't work. Judge for yourself.

This week is gonna be much like last, random linkage, most of it pre-loaded. I'm on a roll elsewhere, not to mention, deadline.
