Citizen McCaw Screening This Friday, March 7, @ Arlington Theater

There's tons of stuff going on around here that I don't talk about in this public space. This case, a fascinating, heartbreaking example of First Amendment abuses, is one of them. CITIZEN MCCAW, the documentary film about the crisis at the Santa Barbara
News-Press premieres this Friday at 7:30pm at the Arlington Theater. As many
of you know, my mother Melinda Burns, a 20-year senior reporter, was the
first of eight journalists to be illegally fired in 2006 by Wendy McCaw, the
owner and co-publisher of the paper.

"The film chronicles events since July 2006, when editor Jerry Roberts and
five of his colleagues quit the Santa Barbara News-Press, citing Wendy
McCaw's abandonment of journalistic ethics. Since then, McCaw and dozens of
her former staffers have been engaged in a fierce clash of wills that raises
important national questions of journalistic ethics and media ownership."
