We interrupt the micro movie reviews for this important announcement.
The Science Fiction Writers of America have just released the prelim Nebula ballot. Scroll down to the bottom, and you'll see two entries under Scripts. One is for that Serenity thing I still haven't managed to go see (but I'll get around to it, eventually because Buffy, despite being Entirely Too White, was a phenomenal series). The other is for The Old Negro Space Program.
The ballot notes that The Old Negro Space Program's eligibility has yet to be confirmed by the rules committee. I have no idea why this is. I'm not in SFWA, I don't think I know anyone on it's rule committee whom I can ask what it is about the film that calls its qualification for the category in question, and even if I did I probably wouldn't. Because one of the best things about being an American with a blog is that you don't have to bother going through the effort of fully informing yourself before you sign on and start screaming. God, I love this country so very much.
And that is why the operators of BGF Central hereby announce THE CAMPAIGN FOR ANDY BOBROW AND THE OLD NEGRO SPACE PROGRAM. The SFWA Nebula rules committee MUST let The Old Negro Space Program script be eligible for this award!
I know I threw up a link to The Old Negro Space Program back when a friend alerted me to it's existence. This is one of the funniest things I have seen in a very long time. It's EVEN FUNNIER than Lonely Astronaut, and that's saying something. The Old Negro Space Program is laser in its targeting, it's layered and it's a PERFECT deadpan. If you don't believe me, please click on one of the handy links provided that will take you directly to The Old Negro Space Program site, where you will be directed to a link to iFilm, where you can watch it. (You might not want to to that if you're on dial-up, though.) As a bonus, it also upset fellow Die Whitey activists who are humor impaired. So it gets points for generating a burp of controversy!
FREE SULLIVAN! LET THE OLD NEGRO SPACE PROGRAM HAVE A SHOT AT A NEBULA!
